  1. Turns out looking at these stills is a much more enjoyable experience for me than watching the trailer, so thank you!!! And just a few brief images are enough to remind me of why Vader is the greatest movie villain of all time. The ultimate servant of the system… a man-turned-machine… a person who derives all his (unimaginable) power from being a slave. All you have to do is look at the guy. Vader is so tragic, so deceptively complex, and so unutterably cool that maybe there’s something to the argument that the prequels did not do him justice. In truth those movies were a little prosaic, after everything the figure of Vader always promised. Maybe the prequels were so caught up in trying to answer every question posed by the original trilogy that they forgot to open up mysteries of their own. At any rate, I’m chomping at the bit to see him onscreen again, hopefully actually doing things this time.

Two months until he executes Krennic!!! Because let’s be honest.

    1. yeh but hopefully Krennic will stand up to Vader. Ever since we have seen Krennic, people loved his appearance and I think he is a foolish villain(as almost all Imperials are). However, he should have his moment to par Vader’s brutality by cleverness. There needs to be a good explanation, why Vader isn’t that strong in “A New Hope”
Krennic probably fails to the end, Vader gets mad and hunts him down in a tense cat and mouse chase while Krennic plays out his wits.

      1. It would be great to see Vader match wits with a high-ranking Imperial. It was originally going to happen in ROTJ, and I hope we get at least a taste of it in Rogue One. There was a lot of jealousy, rivalry, and backstabbing in the Empire. Just look at the way Palpatine and Vader played each other. The people at the top set the atmosphere in any organization, and there was a Sith Lord controlling the Empire. And murdering your superior was literally a rite of passage for the Sith.

The way I have always viewed Vader in ANH is that Tarkin was in charge of the Death Star, so Vader deferred to Tarkin there. In TESB Vader was charged with a mission, so Vader was firmly in charge. Vader wasn’t the second in command in the Empire, he was more an enforcer, a public face. In the Empire there was Emperor Palpatine, and everyone else.

      2. My understanding is that Krennic and Vader will be very much at odds. One of the things that doesn’t quite jive with me with the canon reboot is that this is supposed to be Vader’s big public reveal. That before this his was a bogeyman, but that no one had any hard intel on him, which doesn’t even make sense with what’s happened on Rebels, let alone that Leia seems to know him pretty darn well by reputation in ANH and Rogue One is supposed to end 10 minutes before she puts the Death Star plans in R2. Krennic is in charge of the Death Star at this point, to my understanding and so he thinks he’s the Emperor’s #2 and then Vader comes down like a hammer in this film and Krennic is wondering who the hell this THING is. Their relationship is not going to be cooperative. I don’t quite get the Vader popping out of nowhere thing, but it does give us something onscreen that the EU has always used which is that the Emperor never let Vader feel like a safe apprentice. Anakin’s insecurity is his weakness, so Palpatine never let him get comfortable in his position. The Darth Vader comic run that Marvel just finished did a great job of exploring that dynamic in the wake of ANH, when the Emperor pretty much demotes Vader and sticks him under General Tagge.

      3. I haven’t watched Rebels yet so I can’t speak to Vader’s portrayal there, but I can’t imagine that Leia’s line vis a vie Vader’s boldness will be left hanging out there.

My guess is that we’re about to learn that the line always referred to a single, very bold action on Vader’s part that occurred around the middle of Rogue One.
