Poll: What is the Best Show on TV? 5th Annual KT Viewers Poll!!!

Each September, in conjunction with Emmy month, Killing Time readers choose what they believe to be the best show currently on television.  TV has gone from a second tier medium to one that is consistently better with more variety than the movies.  There’s so much quality, in fact, that, while I set the nominee list at 15 this year (and cutting it down was hard).  It’s telling that, in those 15 shows, there’s one comedy (and, in truth, Atlanta is more of a dramedy).  The sitcom has never been at a worse point, while drama may not be at the peak of its golden age, but it’s still a better bet than the movies have become.Elisabeth Moss in The Handmaid's Tale
Remember, you are voting for the most recent season of the show, and the show has to still be active to be the “Best Show on TV” (Before Stranger Things devotees get up in arms, the show slipped in-between deadlines for voting; season one aired in time for last year, but season two won’t qualify until next year’s poll since it doesn’t debut until near Halloween).  This year we said good-bye to a number of quality shows like Orphan Black and Bloodline.

VOTE and VOTE TWICE!  I will keep this poll in the header and pin it to the top of the KT Facebook and Twitter pages to hopefully get a record turnout.  I’m also going to do a little mini-Emmys of my own, the nominees for which I will list below and I’ll announce the winners when KT dubs THE FINEST SHOW ON TELEVISION on October 1st.  Will it be a brand-new champion or will one of the past winners reclaim the prize?  Here’s the history of past winners:
2013: Game of Thrones Season Three (HBO)
2014: The Walking Dead Season Four (AMC)
2015: Daredevil Season One (Netflix)
2016: The Flash Season Two (The CW)

  1. Dave, I’ve decided that I need to step up my television viewing. This year is a bad year cinematically, and movies are not filling any of the various voids that movies usually fill in my life. Also I feel culturally illiterate.

There has to be a world beyond Twin Peaks, which is ending this weekend. Twin Peaks made me remember how great it is to have ongoing characters to revisit, week after week after week. Movies don’t give you that feeling, and even books don’t, because while they can be long, they don’t take years to complete. TV characters are the closest approximations to your friends and relatives that exist. Except that you stick with the characters when they murder people. I’m thinking of starting with Westworld and the Crown, just because of favorable things I’ve heard from people I trust. Do you agree that those are worthy shows to start with, when it comes to ones that are currently in progress?
