One of the things that I love about Arrow is that it makes full use of the DCU sandbox. They might not get Superman or Batman, but they’re grabbing any cool characters they think might work in Starling City and bringing them Ollie’s way. On Smallville, you’d be lucky to get one DC character a year during the later seasons. Arrow has them nearly every week, but in the spirit of the Dark Knight trilogy, as grounded in reality as possible. I loved how they turned The Royal Flush Gang into essentially the heist team from Heat. Read below, courtesy of ComingSoon, about even more DCU headed Arrow’s way.
Screen Crush is reporting that actor Dylan Neal has been cast as DC comics villain Dr. Anthony Ivo in the upcoming season of Arrow. Neal will appear as Ivo in the fifth episode of the new season for a four episode arc. He will encounter Oliver Queen in the “island flashback sequences” and is described as “a brutal but ruthless scientist who will stop at nothing to unearth a breakthrough that dates back to the latter days of World War II.” It’s said that Neal could recur in later episodes as the doctor as well.
Known in the comic world as “Professor Ivo,” the character is most well-known as being a Justice League villain and the creator of the robot Amazo. He is also immortal in the comic book series, which makes his fifth episode debut interesting as it bares the title “League of Assassins,” whose leader Ra’s al Ghul is also immortal in the source material.
The new season of Arrow is heavily expanding its roster of comic book characters and in addition to Dr. Ivo will include Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev, Caity Lotz as Black Canary, Michael Jai White as Bronze Tiger, Kevin Alejandro as Sebastian Blood, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Sin, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Amanda Waller, and Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash later in the season.
In addition Jimmy Jean-Louis has been cast as a mysterious character known only as “The Captain” who will be an associate of Dr. Ivo’s. He will be connected to a mystery running through season two called “the Amazo”. Will Louis become Amazo, the synthetic villain who mimics the powers of the Justice League in the comics or some Nolan-ized version thereof?
Arrow season 2 premieres on Wednesday, October 9th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
