Trailer Time: Wonder Woman Trailer #2 (2017)

After August’s Suicide Squad, the next installment on DC’s road to Justice League is the Wonder Woman solo film.  The first trailer for the film was unveiled at Comic Con. The second full trailer is out now, along with three gorgeous posters.  “Gorgeous” is really the best word to describe WW so far.  It looks stunning.  However, every time I hear dialogue, I wince.  Geoff Johns didn’t get hired to start righting the disastrous rollout of the DCEU until after Wonder Woman was done, so his influence isn’t going to be felt until Justice League.  Question is: by the time we get there, is anyone going to care when Marvel is throwing no-hitter after no-hitter?  Starring Gal Gadot, Robin Wright, Chris Pine, and David Thewlis, Wonder Woman is scheduled to open June 2, 2017.

Trailer Time: Injustice Gods Among Us 2 Announcement Teaser (Xbox, Playstation – 2017)

Injustice Gods Among Us was one of the best, most addictive fighting games that I’ve ever played.  It was based on story, and that story has continued in the comics (where they’re currently in Year Five after the destruction of Metropolis).  The sequel looks to drop in March of next year.  Batman, Superman, Flash, Aquaman, Supergirl, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd are the only seven characters confirmed so far, but the press releases are touting a very deep roster, so expect that number to grow.  Dynasty on YouTube has a few more details on gameplay before he starts freaking out about microtransactions (once that starts, just tune him out as we’re 10 months away from release and that seems like really premature freak out.  With E3 next week, expect a lot of video game announcements coming up!

PS – Is it just me or does the voice in the trailer sound like Bryan Cranston?

Dylan Neal to Play Dr. Ivo in Arrow Season Two; Plus “The Amazo”

One of the things that I love about Arrow is that it makes full use of the DCU sandbox.  They might not get Superman or Batman, but they’re grabbing any cool characters they think might work in Starling City and bringing them Ollie’s way.  On Smallville, you’d be lucky to get one DC character a year during the later seasons.  Arrow has them nearly every week, but in the spirit of the Dark Knight trilogy, as grounded in reality as possible.  I loved how they turned The Royal Flush Gang into essentially the heist team from Heat.  Read below, courtesy of ComingSoon, about even more DCU headed Arrow’s way.

Screen Crush is reporting that actor Dylan Neal has been cast as DC comics villain Dr. Anthony Ivo in the upcoming season of Arrow. Neal will appear as Ivo in the fifth episode of the new season for a four episode arc. He will encounter Oliver Queen in the “island flashback sequences” and is described as “a brutal but ruthless scientist who will stop at nothing to unearth a breakthrough that dates back to the latter days of World War II.” It’s said that Neal could recur in later episodes as the doctor as well.

Known in the comic world as “Professor Ivo,” the character is most well-known as being a Justice League villain and the creator of the robot Amazo. He is also immortal in the comic book series, which makes his fifth episode debut interesting as it bares the title “League of Assassins,” whose leader Ra’s al Ghul is also immortal in the source material.

The new season of Arrow is heavily expanding its roster of comic book characters and in addition to Dr. Ivo will include Summer Glau as Isabel Rochev, Caity Lotz as Black Canary, Michael Jai White as Bronze Tiger, Kevin Alejandro as Sebastian Blood, Bex Taylor-Klaus as Sin, Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Amanda Waller, and Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash later in the season.

In addition Jimmy Jean-Louis has been cast as a mysterious character known only as “The Captain” who will be an associate of Dr. Ivo’s.  He will be connected to a mystery running through season two called “the Amazo”.  Will Louis become Amazo, the synthetic villain who mimics the powers of the Justice League in the comics or some Nolan-ized version thereof?

Arrow season 2 premieres on Wednesday, October 9th at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Your New Flash is ….Gleeful….sigh

Flash, CW

I was so stoked to hear that a Flash TV series was going to spin-off from The CW’s Arrow.  The Flash has the second best rogues gallery in the DCU, and I actually think a TV series would be a better tool for developing the character than a movie.  SO stoked.  Until I read this on Geek Tyrant and stumbled off in search of migraine meds.

Glee star Grant Gustin has been cast as The Flash in the upcoming series that the CW is developing. The Flash, a.k.a. Barry Allen, will be introduced in Arrow before the actual series takes off. He will appear in 3 episodes of Arrow. According to THR, it will be episodes eight, nine, and twenty, “the latter of which will serve as the backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff Flash series.”

The spin-off series is being developed by Arrow co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, as well as director David Nutter. Berlanti, Kreisberg, and DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns will write the script for the series.
