Red Sparrow Trailer #2 (2018) “Take Back Your Life”

I know this is based on a series of novels by Jason Matthews, but if you substitute “Red Sparrow” for “Black Widow” it seems awfully familiar. If Marvel doesn’t kick up its game, this may be as close to a solo Widow film as we ever get.  Read Coming Soon’s full synopsis below.  Red Sparrow is coming March 2, 2018. Dominika Egorova is many things. A devoted daughter determined to protect her mother at all costs. A prima ballerina whose ferocity has pushed her body and mind to the absolute limit. A master of seductive and manipulative combat.

When she suffers a career-ending injury, Dominika and her mother are facing a bleak and uncertain future. That is why she finds herself manipulated into becoming the newest recruit for Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people like her to use their bodies and minds as weapons. After enduring the perverse and sadistic training process, she emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow the program has ever produced. Dominika must now reconcile the person she was with the power she now commands, with her own life and everyone she cares about at risk, including an American CIA agent who tries to convince her he is the only person she can trust.

Red Sparrow also stars Joel Edgerton, Matthias Schoenaerts, Charlotte Rampling, Mary-Louise Parker and Jeremy Irons.

Francis Lawrence, who previously directed Jennifer Lawrence in the final three Hunger Games movies, directs Red Sparrow from a screenplay by Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road) based on the book by Jason Matthews. Chernin Entertainment is producing with Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch is an executive producer.

Red Sparrow arrives in theaters on March 2, 2018.

Bright Trailer #1 (2017) *Will Smith’s Netflix Blockbuster*

Netflix continues to forge ahead with their plans to take on the big boys in movies as well as TV, despite the critical bomb that was Brad Pitt’s War Machine.  The next big effort will come in December with Will Smith and Bright.  You can’t say it’s not ambitious.  I really didn’t think you could come up with a more diverse, racially-divided LA, but…hats off to David Ayer for bringing elves into the mix.  It looks like it could be great or awful with absolutely no middle ground.

The movie was directed by Max Landis and it also stars Noomi Rapace, Edgar Ramírez, Ike Barinholtz, and Brad William Henke.  Bright will be available to stream on Netflix starting on December 22, 2017

Set in an alternate present-day where humans, orcs, elves, and fairies have been co-existing since the beginning of time. Bright is genre-bending action movie that follows two cops from very different backgrounds. Ward (Smith) and Jakoby (Joel Edgerton), embark on a routine patrol night and encounter a darkness that will ultimately alter the future and their world as they know it.

Movie Review: The Gift (2015) *Pychological Mind Wipe*

The-Gift-Movie-Poster-e1438953837526

In every high school there was someone who was unmercifully picked on every day for four miserable years.  You know it, and you either WERE the person being picked on or you feel like crap now because you know how out of line you were when you were an idiot teenager.  Sometimes you get a chance to apologize years later.  Sometimes you hear that person came to a sad end (happened to me).  However, if you were the person who got picked on in high school, Joel Edgerton has made a dream movie come true for you in The Gift.  For the rest of us, it’s eerily guilty psychological horror.
