Mary Poppins Returns Teaser #1 (2018) *Another Spoonful On Its Way*

I have serious doubts about the viability of a sequel to a movie as perfect as Mary Poppins, but as far as totally teasery trailers go…..this was a nice one.  I love that Dick Van Dyke is involved.  I love the cast.  I think if anyone can come close to Julie Andrews in today’s world, Emily Blunt has the best shot, but I’m going to be skeptical about Mary Poppins Returns until proven otherwise.  Read below for more from Coming Soon.

The cast of Mary Poppins Returns includes Emily Blunt (The Girl on the Train, Into the Woods), EmmyGrammy and Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Moana), Ben Whishaw (SPECTRE), Emily Mortimer (Hugo) and Julie Walters (Harry Potter films), with Colin Firth (The King’s Speech) and Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins). In addition, Dick Van Dyke plays Mr. Dawes Jr., the chairman of Fidelity Fiduciary Bank, which is now run by William Weatherall Wilkins (Firth), and Angela Lansbury will play the Balloon Lady, a character from PL Travers’ original children’s books. Movie Review: Saving Mr. Banks (2013)

Emma Thompson, Saving Mr. Banks
Mary Poppins was never really a favorite film of mine growing up.  I saw it.  I thought it was nice, but it wasn’t a childhood favorite and I don’t have a connection to it in that way.  I was terribly intrigued by the premise, though, of Saving Mr. Banks: the 20 year ordeal Walt Disney went through in order to get Poppins’ author-P.L. Travers-to grant him the rights to the film and allow him to fulfill a promise he had made to his daughters to make the movie.  Having just left it, I think I liked Saving Mr. Banks and the story of the “why” of Mary Poppins more than the film itself. Trailer Time: Saving Mr. Banks (2013)

Who COULD play Walt Disney other than Tom Hanks?  Saving Mr. Banks is the story of the 20-year courtship between Disney and Mary Poppins‘ creator P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson) to allow him the rights to make the movie adaptation of her book.  The cast is amazing and this trailer just knocks it out of the park.  Granted, Disneyland has been a major part of my life and I’m biased, but this just jumped into the top echelon of my anticipated holiday films.
