Top 5: Shows That Weren’t Cancelled, But Need To Be

Mammen_axe

By now we all know which shows have survived.  All five networks have released their schedules for the upcoming 2014-2015 TV seasons and while there were unjust cancellations (Community, Almost Human) and just renewals (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Parenthood, Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD), there’s also a group of shows that were renewed that shouldn’t have been.

1. Glee (FOX)
glee-glee-logoThe phenomenon ran its course three years ago and it ruined Jane Lynch.  Stop it.  Just put it down, and walk away.

2. American Idol (FOX)American-Idol-LogoName the last winner of American Idol you remember by name.  Carrie Underwood?  Yep, point made.

3. CSI (CBS)0225-csi-cast-logo-cbs-1Most people don’t even know this is still even on (though to be fair, my demographic is under 65), let alone that TED DANSON is running this group.  I get that CBS think it can’t do any wrong, but endlessly franchising NCIS and keeping CSI around  four or five seaons too long instead of developing new dramas is what will eventually bring the network out of the top spot.

4. Grey’s Anatomy (ABC)

What is there left to say with this show?  The best characters have left the show.  It should have ended this year with Sandra Oh leaving Seattle.  Without her, this show is going to go even further off the rails than Scandal did this season (don’t think it didn’t almost make this list).

5. The Simpsons (FOX)the-simpsons-movie-new-wallpaper-393911301
I get it.  26 years is a long time.  The Simpsons is an American institution.  It also hasn’t been consistently funny in about 12 years.  It’s painful to watch.  It’s time to put it to pasture.

Honorobale Mentions: Law & Order SVU (NBC), Bones (FOX), The New Girl (FOX), Hell’s Kitchen (FOX) and Scandal (ABC).

2013 – 2014 TV Season Renewals and Cancellations So Far

abc, cbs, nbc, fox, cw

It’s time to play every couch potato’s favorite annual game, “Are those idiots going to cancel my show?”  While we don’t have all the answers yet, we’ll get them next week when all four major networks (and the CW) announce their fall schedules.  As of now, though, here is what is renewed, what pilots are approved, and what shows are definitely not returning.  If your show is not on any of the lists, you’re going to have to ride the bubble another week.

ABC

ABC has announced nearly no news on its upcoming schedule.  Here’s what we do know: 666 Park Avenue, Don’t Trust the B—h in Apartment 23, Last Resort, Private Practice and Zero Hour will all NOT be returning and Saturday Night Football will.  That doesn’t mean that if you’re a Grey’s fan that you should be wigging out, it just means ABC doesn’t announce a lot of stuff ahead of time.

CBS

CBS announced 19 returning series have been renewed for the 2013-2014 broadcast season: NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, Elementary, 60 Minutes, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Mike & Molly, CSI, NCIS: Los Angeles, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-O, The Mentalist, The Amazing Race, Survivor, Undercover Boss, 48 Hours, and Two and a Half Men (minus the kid who went rogue so shouldn’t it just be Two Dudes now?).  Not returning will be Partners, The Job and Made in Jersey.

The CW

The CW (still here) has announced that Arrow, Beauty and the Beast, Hart of Dixie, Supernatural and The Vampire Diaries will be returning.  The pilot for The Originals has already been approved for the fall schedule (I will take bets now on it being derivative….anyone….c’mon).  Not returning are 90210, Cult, Emily Owens M.D. and Gossip Girl.

FOX

FOX returns American Dad, Bob’s Burgers, Bones, Family Guy, The Following, Glee, The Mindy Project, New Girl, Raising Hope, The Simpsons and The X-Factor.  The pilots Dads and Murder Police (I would watch that if it was one show: Murder Police Dads) have been approved for the fall schedule.  Not returning are Ben and Kate, Fringe, The Mob Doctor and COPS (DO NOT FREAK OUT….it just moved to Spike TV where they can show it right after America’s Most Amazing Compound Fracture Videos).

nbc,

NBC will return Chicago Fire, Football Night in America, Grimm, Law & Order: SVU, NBC Sunday Night Football, Parenthood, Revolution, The Sing-Off, and The Voice.  Four pilots are approved for the fall schedule: An Untitled Michael J. Fox Comedy, Dracula, Crossbones and The Million Second Quiz.  Not returning are 30 Rock, The Office, Animal Practice, Do No Harm and Ready for Love.  What HAPPENED to this network?  I know more of The CW’s shows and that just makes me feel unclean.

When the full slates are announced next week, we will roll them out for you so that you may plan carefully your campaign of time murder for the next year.  Bet Reuters won’t put it that way in their article…
